Abstract
631,759. Knitting - machines. MELLOR, BROMLEY, & CO., Ltd., and SHORTLAND, A. May 1, 1947, No. 11718. [Class 74 (ii)] An auxiliary fabric tensioning mechanism, for a circular machine comprises elements 6 which engage the fabric on completion of a pouch,'for example as is described in Specification 551,287, and which are supported on the end of a rod 5 positioned concentrically and adapted to rotate with the needle cylinder or cylinders 1 and 2. The end of the rod is formed with a spiral groove 9, which is engaged by a stationary member 15 to restore the rod and elements to an inoperative position, and is also provided with a circumferential groove 11 which is engaged by a catch-rod 14 when the rod 5 is raised to retain it and its associated elements in the inoperative position. The invention is described in connection with a superposed cylinder machine wherein the stationary member 15 is adapted to operate in conjunction with the catch-rod 14, the arrangement being that upon completion of a pouch both the member 15 and the rod 14 are withdrawn by the action of a lever on a member 23, secured to the member 15, against the action of springs 19 to allow the rod 5 to drop and permit the elements 6 to engage the fabric. Spaced projections 21 and 22 are formed on the rod 14 and between which the rod-member 23 moves. The end of the rod 14 is of greater width than that of the groove so that, upon withdrawal of the lever action upon the member 23, the member 15 moves to engage in the groove 9 to restore the rod to an inoperative position whilst the rod 14 bears against the surface of the rod 5 until it engages its groove 11. Specifications 570,759 and 614,685 also are referred to.
