Abstract

568,557. Door closers. ROWLEY, Ltd., W., and CLAVERLEY, A. F. Oct. 26, 1943, No. 17633. [Class 65 (i)] A door closer a provided with the usual torsion spring j has a dash-pot cylinder 3 at right angles to the spring axis, an eccentric 8 at the end of a spindle g engaging a slot 7 in an extension 6 of the dashpot piston 5. When the spindle is turned, during opening of the door, the piston 5 is moved to the left, Fig. 2, and displaces oil or air contained in a compartment f by way of passages 10, 12 and a non- return valve 11. The passage 12 has an adjustable needle valve 13. A gland h is incorporated. The spring is anchored to abutment plates m, n, freely mounted on a sleeve i. The upper plate m has a pair of projections o, p, which co-operate with projections q, r, on the sleeve i and cover plate b, respectively. The lower plate n, has projections s, t, which co-operate with projections u, v, on the sleeve i and housing respectively. An arm w connects the spindle with the door or frame. An annular disc x, mounted on the sleeve i, has, holes y for engagement of a tool to rotate the sleeve relatively to the spindle g to adjust the original strain on the spring j. A peg 2 co-operates with a lug z to hold the disc in position.
