Abstract

556,750. Regulating. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. April 16, 1942, No. 5071. Convention date, April 10, 1941. [Class 7 (vi)] A throttle control is provided with means producing a torque acting thereon in opposition to the unbalanced force due to air flow past the throttle this torque being a maximum when the throttle is in an intermediate position, so that if the throttle, control should be broken, the throttle automatically takes up the intermediate position. The throttle spindle 19 is provided with an arm 20 connected to a telescopic spring device 52 anchored at 44. When the throttle is closed, the spring is in a .dead-centre position with regard to the throttle axis ; but as the throttle opens, the spring acts through the arm 20 with an opening tendency on the throttle. When the throttle is half open, the spring casing 40 elongates and reduces the force exerted by the spring. A closing-force may be exerted on the throttle when wide open, by a buffer spring 54, or by the action of the air flow on a projection at the underside of the throttle. In a modification, two springs are used, and one of these goes out of action as the throttle passes the half-open position. The closed or idling position of the throttle is controlled by contact of the arm 20 with a stop 30 eccentrically mounted on an adjustable rotary member 28, which also has a concentric stop portion 34 for co-operating with another arm 22 to provide a fixed limit for the wide-open position.
