Abstract

Bituminous material, e.g. asphalt is given improved bonding qualities for stone aggregates, metal pipe coatings &c. by forming a homogeneous mixture with an organic derivative of ammonia having at least one lipophilic radical attached to the nitrogen atom, and an organic acid radical of at least 8 carbon atoms. The acid is preferably a fatty acid of 16 to 20 carbon atoms. Primary, secondary or tertiary amines, amidines, imidazolines, or amides may be used with abietic acid, naphthenic acids, Japan wax or montan wax &c. Examples specify 0.3 per cent of lauryl amine and up to 1.6 per cent of oleic acid. Specification 472,632 is referred to.
