Abstract
Compositions for roads, floors, paints, &c., comprise bituminous materials, e.g. petroleum residues, pitches, road oils, albino asphalts, asphalt cutbacks, cracked or natural asphalts, solutions or dispersions, asphaltic rocks, or tars or pitches from coal, shale, lignite, wood, &c., to which has been added small percentages each of a cation surface-active bonding agent which is a wax amine, e.g. white scale wax which has been subjected to chlorination and ammonolysis and also an anion surface-active agent which is an organic acid, e.g. naphthenic acids, soluble mahogany or green acids, polycarboxylic acids, saturated fatty acids of ten or more carbon atoms; benzoic and stearic acids being mentioned. The compositions may be used with acidic or basic aggregates and may be made by mixing the agents with the asphalt &c. or by applying them to the surface of the aggregates.
