Abstract

The binding-agent used in the preparation of road surfaces comprises a bituminous material mixed with a volatile diluent which is wholly or in part soluble in water, e.g. alcohol or acetone. In examples, (1) 960 kilos of coal tar are mixed with 40 kilos of acetone, (2) 700 kilos of petroleum asphalt of melting point about 30 DEG C. and 200 kilos of anthracene oil are mixed with 100 kilos of ethyl alcohol.
