Abstract
Tar products, particularly for road construction, are made by mixing tar or a tar preparation with chlorinated rubber and heating the mixture for a long time-e.g. 24 hours-at a temperature of about 100 DEG C. The effect is to increase the viscosity of the tar &c. Suitable tar preparations are (1) a mixture of bituminous material such as brown coal-tar pitch with coal tar distillates-e.g. anthracene oil or those distillates which boil above 300 DEG C.-and (2) petroleum bitumen dissolved in coal-tar. The chlorinated rubber may be added in solid form or in a solvent. Three examples are given. Specification 411,640 is referred to.
