Abstract

A coating-composition for metal articles, such as pipes, cables, &c. consists of a petroleum bitumen of high softening point incorporated in a mixture of viscous mineral oil and paraffin wax preferably containing protoparaffins. The composition is prepared by mixing raw or oxidized petroleum bitumen with a solution of paraffin wax in spindle oil, or with petroleum jelly. Finely divided asbestos, powdered shale or other filter may be added. The composition may be applied melted or dissolved in a solvent-such as benzene.ALSO:A coating-composition for metal articles, e.g. pipes, cables, &c. consists of a raw or oxidized petroleum bitumen of high softening point, a viscous mineral oil such as spindle oil and paraffin wax preferably containing proto-paraffins. The mineral oil and paraffin wax may be replaced by petroleum jelly. Fillers such as powdered asbestos or shale may be added together with a solvent, e.g. benzene.
