Abstract

A constructional material is made by first coating particles of cork, wood, or peat with a thin layer of rubber by applying latex or like dispersion, and then adding cement, plaster of Paris or the like and water if necessary. In an example a composition comprises 50 parts by volume of cork particles, 10 of concentrated latex, 30 of cement and 10 of water. The cork which has previously been moistened is mixed with the latex which has been stabilized with a protective colloid, cement mixed with water is then added and the final mixture is stirred and placed in moulds to set. Other fillers and modifying agents may be added, e.g. hard rubber, casein products, resins, mineral waxes, cellulose products, sand, gravel, metals, e.g. iron dust, and metal oxides.
