Abstract
For surfacing roads a non-absorbent stone, such as granite, whinstone, or a highly silicious stone, such as felsite, and all types of slag aggregates, are heated to between 120 DEG F. and 150 DEG F. and then coated direct with 4 per cent. to 5 per cent. of a mixture of a molten bituminous binder, a primer blended from coal-tar pitch and creosote oil, and a finely divided filler e.g. crushed limestone. In practice 5 per cent. to 10 per cent. of filler is added to the primer, the mix homogenized, and 5 per cent. to 10 per cent. thereof mixed with molten bitumen and the mixture used to coat the heated stone.
