Abstract
559,115. Package of thread. CLARK THREAD CO. June 30, 1942, No. 9010. Convention date Feb. 10. [Class 120 (iii)] A package of thread wound on a bobbin having a tapered base comprises a plurality of layers 3 .... 8 each of several thicknesses of thread wound to a predetermined radial thickness and axial length, each successive layer being of substantially the same length and axially offset both at the base 2 of the bobbin and at the end of the layer opposite the base 2 in relation to the preceding layer while the end of each layer adjacent the base 2 has a surface subtantially perpendicular to the axis of the arbor 1 of the bobbin, such surface forming with the tapered surface of the base 2 an annular angular recess 9 into which extend some of the threads near the end of the next adjacent layer. The contour at the end opposite the base 2 may present a series of rightangled steps or a series of concave or convex scallops. The package may be formed by the apparatus described in Specification 557,119.
