Abstract
630,186. Bobbins. GRIMSHAW, J. A. April 25, 1945, No. 10453. [Class 120 (iii)] A bobbin comprises a member 27 having a central hole 41, enabling it to be placed on the winding spindle of a winding mechanism, and a serrated edge, extending completely round the member such that a thread may be wound from one notch A of the serrated edge across the face of the member to another notch B which is not exactly diametrically opposite notch A and returning over the back of the member to notch A or to a notch near to it without passing over the central hole. Member 27 may be a flat disc, having teeth as shown or of triangular form ; alternately, it may be a flat polygon with a serrated periphery, or of double convex form with a circumferential projecting rim in which the serrations are formed. The bobbin may be made of paper, cardboard, papier-machÚ, plastics, or metal. Winding progresses around the bobbin until the desired thread package is formed ; when the serrations are covered, winding continues on the already wound thread. The bobbin may be wound by hand; or on a winding machine by means of a rotating flyer geared to the winding spindle.
