Abstract
557,228. Hulling grain. RYLE, T. May 8, 1942, No. 6251. Convention date, July 11, 1941. [Class 58] Grain is carried by a stream of air through a chamber B provided with circumferential rows of fixed radially-projecting rods M arranged alternately with circumferential rows of radially-projecting rods K on a rotating shaft D. As shown, the chamber B is connected to the inlet of a fan casing C, the shaft D being an extension of the fan shaft. The rods K are screwed into collars L on the shaft D, and the rods M into the casing B, and fixed by locknuts in adjusted positions. The rods K, M may be of circular cross-section or the rods K may have plane surfaces normal to the direction of rotation. Grain is fed into the stream of air drawn into the inlet H and the kernels, hulls and dust are discharged continuously from the fan outlet G, which may be connected to a cyclone or other separator. The fan may be a separate unit, connected by a duct to the chamber B, and the shaft D driven by separate means.
