Abstract

547,286. Lubricating oils. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 15, 1940, No. 2930. Convention date, March 16, 1939. [Class 91] [Also in Group IV] To maintain between the bearing surfaces of an internal combustion engine, a film of a mineral lubricating oil within the motor oil viscosity range, there is added to the oil about 0.01 to 2 per cent. of a bearing corrosioninhibiting agent consisting of the tri-cyclohexyl ester of phosphorous acid or an alkyl-, aryl- or aralkyl-substitution product thereof, e.g. the various isomeric mono-, di- and tri-methylcyclo hexanols, ethycyclohexanols, propylcyclohexanols and mixed alkylcyclohexanols and the various phenyl-, tolyl- and xylyl-cyclohexanols. Tri-cyclohexyl esters of phosphorous acid are obtained by reaction of phosphorus trichloride (1 mol.) with cyclohexanol or its alkyl-, aryl- or aralkyl substitution products (3 mols), suitably in a mixture of benzene and pyridine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 457,548.
