Abstract

1414700 Lubricants; lubricant-fuel mixtures ESSO STANDARD SOC ANON FRANCAISE 10 April 1973 [26 April 1972] 17047/73 Headings C5F and C5G A lubricant for 2-stroke and rotary engines consists substantially entirely of (a) 25-99 wt. per cent of at least one branched alkylbenzene having at least 20 carbon atoms, (b) 1-12 wt. per cent conventional additives and (c) 0-74 wt. per cent mineral lube oil. Specified additives (b) are sulphonates, alkyl succinimides and zinc salts of thiophosphate esters. The mineral oil may be a heavy, solvent-refined distillate of viscosity 4-15 cS at 100‹ C. The alkylbenzene may contain one or two C 1-2 alkyl groups in addition to the branched group, and may be the products of alkylating benzene toluene or ethylbenzene with a C 9 -C 33 alkene. A 2-stroke or rotary engine fuel comprises a mixture of the above lubricant and a distillate fuel (e.g. gasoline or diesel fuel) in the proportions 1 : 10 to 1 : 100. In examples one part of lubricant (consisting of alkylbenzenes and detergent, Œ mineral oil) is added to 20 parts conventional gasoline.
