Abstract

542,503. Gas treatment of yarn. TAYLOR, W. I. July 10, 1940, No. 11470. [Class 15 (i)] Apparatus for blowing gas through yarn wound on bobbins comprises a clamp adapted to close the bore of the bobbin and fitted with a valve in a compressed gas supply adapted to be opened by placing the bobbin in the clamp. The clamp comprises a rubber pad 2 on to which the bobbin is clamped by a cam 6 and spindle 7 carrying a second rubber pad 8. The pad 2 has a central hole 11 in which is the valve 13 the stem 14 of which is depressed to open the valve by the flange of the bobbin. The bobbin may have peripheral grooves 19 in communication with radial perforations 18 arranged midway of the height of the bobbin. In a modification the perforations are near the top of the bobbin or are distributed over its height, the grooves in this case being omitted.
