Abstract

537,141. Knitting-machines. BLACKBURN & SONS, Ltd., G., START, H. W., and START, E. Nov. 9, 1939, No. 29685. [Class 74 (ii)] A straight-bar machine having two groups of needles for knitting the heel tabs to a stocking blank comprising a leg and foot portion is provided in each group with a sinker H' to draw a longer loop than the remaining sinkers H and so shaped that in co-operation with an associated knocking-over bit K<SP>2</SP>. the longer loop is held during the knitting motions of the machine so that a slack sinker wale is produced in each of the heel tabs. The sinker H<SP>3</SP> is provided with a shallower throat and a deeper nose than the remaining sinkers, and the knocking-over bit K<SP>2</SP> has its loop-engaging surface at a higher level than the remaining knocking-over bits K. Specification 180,773, [Class 74 (ii)], is referred to.
