Abstract

526,701. Separating solid materials. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. March 23, 1939, No. 9233. Convention date, April 5, 1938. [Class 82 (ii)] In processes of separating minerals, e.g. coal, by means of organic liquids of intermediate specific gravities, adhesion of the separating liquid to the minerals is prevented by applying to the surface of the minerals an equeous solution, true or colloidal, of a first substance of a kind which reacts with a second substance to form a water-insoluble product, washing the minerals as by water sprays, and then applying thereto the second substance. Both the first and second substances may be, and the second substance must be, "active agents" in the sense defined in Specifications 501,655 and 521,883, such agents being listed therein. The first substance, when not " active may be, for example, iron or other heavy metal salts, azo dyes, phosphomolybdic acid, potassium bichromate &c. The separating liquid may be any of those listed in the above Specifications, the treatment in the separating liquid following the treatment with the two substances above described.
