Abstract
523,329. Magnetrons. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 30, 1938, No. 37934. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1937. (Class 39 (i)] In a magnetron of the type comprising a cathode arranged coaxially within the anode or anodes the flux is concentrated within the neighbourhood of the cathode or the anode by pieces of high magnetic permeability. Fig. 1 shows the cathode 3 and anode 5 arranged between the poles 11 of a magnet, the flux being concentrated in the neighbourhood of the anode by iron cylinders 7. The cylinders may be of such size as to concentrate the flux in the neighbourhood of the cathode, or they may be replaced by cones concentrating the flux near the anode with a less steep fluxgradient, or by cylinders with conical recesses having the converse effect. Fig. 5 shows the container 41 formed with flat metal ends 43 fitting against the magnet poles 35 and insulated by washers 55, conical pole-pieces 37 being arranged within the container. The cathode leads pass through openings in the magnet poles.
