Abstract
447,947. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. April 29, 1935, No. 12769. Convention date, April 28, 1934. [Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XL] In an arc- or glow-discharge device, the electrons are deflected by a magnetic field to vary the intensity of ionization of the filling and the point in each cycle at which the discharge is ignited. The anode 7 and cathode 6 are connected through a transformer 23 to a source of alternating-current 22 and the shield 8 may be positively or negatively biassed with respect to the cathode by means of a battery 25 and a variable resistance 26. The field may be generated by a permanent magnet or by a laminated core 29 provided with a winding 31 connected to a battery 32 and a variable resistance 33. Curves showing the relationships between the potential of the electrode 8, the striking potential and the field strength are contained in the Specification. Specification 309,447, [Class 39 (i)], is referred to.
