Abstract

432,492. Alternating-current motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin) Jan. 24, 1934, No. 2485. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1933. [Class 35] Motors with unwound iron armatures.-In a synchronous motor with a rotor pole number less than the number of stator poles effective for synchronous operation, the stator having main, additional and auxiliary polepieces, the arrangement is such that at any moment when two rotor poles are opposite two stator main poles, at least two other rotor poles are opposite stator additional poles, or are opposite or adjacent to and similarly situated with respect to stator auxiliary polar portions. In the form shown the stator is of " pot " type, one member carrying main poles 1, 7 additional (shorter) poles 5, 11 and shaded poles 3 and 9 and the other member carries main 4, 10, additional 2, 8 and shaded pole-pieces 6 and 12. The rotor may be permanently magnetized and when poles 13, 14 are opposite main poles, poles 15, 16 are opposite shaded poles. An additional rotor member for starting purposes may also be provided. In a modified form, the rotor has four poles. Specification 428,957 is referred to.
