Abstract

597,509. Cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Feb. 21, 1944, No. 3228. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] An oscillatory electron discharge device, such as described in Specification 541,477, comprising a cathode 11 for producing a stream of electrons, a collector 13 for receiving the stream, a modulating grid 12 for modulating the stream and a resonator 17 for coacting inductively with the stream, has means 24 for applying modulating potentials to the grid 12 and simultaneously to the collector so as to maintain the latter at the optimum collecting potential. In the form shown, the modulating means 24 is used in association with a radiofrequency modulator 21 of fixed amplitude, and is connected in series with the grid bias battery 30 and choke 23 ; it is also connected through a transformer 25 to the collector 13. The device comprises two spaced screening and accelerating electrodes 15, 16 connected to the resonator, a magnet having two annular polepieces energized by a coil 35 and yoke 34 and a suppressor electrode 14.
