Abstract

514,059. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., JACOBSEN, B. B., and ROCHE, A. H. April 23, 1938, No. 12196. [Class 40 (v)] In negative feed-back amplifiers in which the phase of the feed-back voltage on the control grid is changed due to the high impedance of the signal source, a second feed-back whose phase is not affected is applied to the screen electrode of the valve. The feed-back voltage derived from the output bridge consisting of resistance R5, R6, R7 and the plate cathode impedance of the valve VI is developed across resistance R8 in the grid circuit of the valve. The resultant feed-back is modified in phase due to the impedance of generator G. The feed-back voltage is also applied via condenser C1, without appreciable phase shift, to the screen grid of the valve. The resultant feed-back effect in the anode circuit is the vector sum of the individual feed-backs and is of more correct phase than that due to the control grid alone. The connections of the generator and condenser C1 to resistance R8 may be made adjustable to vary the relative amounts of feed-back. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the signal voltage and feed-back are applied to both the control and suppressor grids of a pentode, the auxiliary feed-back being applied to the screen grid.
