Abstract
639,928. Valve multiplying circuits. SCOLES, G. J., MILLER, C. W., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 21, 1946, No. 24917. [Class 40 (vi)] In a circuit for multiplying together two electrical quantities x and y, the first quantity x is applied in push-pull between a grid of a main valve V1 and a grid of a compensating valve V2 and the second quantity y is applied in push-pull between another grid of the main valve and either a grid of a further compensating valve V3 or another grid of the first compensating valve (Fig. 2, not shown). The anode circuits of the valves are connected in parallel. Thus the output current from the main valve is k1(a+x)(b+y)=k1(ab+ay+bx+by), (where a and b account for the initial bias on the grids), and the output currents from the compensating valves are k2(a-x) and k3(b - y). If k2=k1b and k3=k1a, then the combined output current is k1xy together with some constant terms, the other terms containing x and y having been eliminated, In the arrangement using only one compensating valve the output current from the compensating valve is k1(a - x)(b - y)= k1(ab - ay - bx+xy) and the combined output current 2k1xy+2k1ab.
