Abstract
535,778. Valve generating circuits. WHITE E. L. C. Oct. 3, 1939, No. 27069. [Class 40 (v)] In a multi-vibrator in which eacn valve is retroactively connected to the other, part of the coupling is effected through an impedance in the cathode circuit of one of the valves, the value of the impedance being such that flow of grid current is substantially prevented. In Fig. 2, the anode of value 1 is connected to the grid of valve 2 by condenser C1, and the anode circuit of valve 2 to the grid of valve 1 by the network R, C, R3, R4 The #-connected network R, C, R3, R4 may be replaced by a T-network, or if C and R are both zero, by a single cathode impedance common to both valves, Fig. 3 (not shown). The circuit may operate in a number of ways according to the nature of the network, e.g. if C and R are both zero, the period of each portion of the oscillations is determined by the time constant r1 C1, R2., and the bias potentials applied to the grids, but if R is very large the capacity C and cathode resistances R3, R4 determine the duration of the two halves of the cycle, the time constant C1, R2 being relatively long. The frequency stability may be improved by connecting the anode of valve 2 through an additional condenser to a point in the grid resistance R2. If desired, the anode of valve 2 may be connected in the usual way by a condenser to the grid of valve 1. Specification 511,847 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 528,806.
