509,919. Stropping razors. MADER, E. Oct. 21, 1937, No. 28716. Void. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1936. [Class 60] A device for stropping safety razor blades comprises a handle 1 carrying a fork-shaped holder 2 in the arms 4, 5 of which are pivoted a roller 6 and an axle 7 carrying a blade holder, the roller and the axle being geared together by spur wheels 11, 12. The strop 10, along which the device is moved, passes beneath the roller 6 and is pressed against the roller by a curved plate 8 pressed upwardly by a spring. The blade-holder consists of a plate 14 having therein two holes 15, 16 and provided with a hook 17 holding a spring wire bow 18 the ends of which pass through the holes 15, 16 and are of hook-shape to engage the outer holes in a blade 21. The holding plate may have at least one projection at the point where the ground portion of the blade cutting edge bears. This projection may be formed by a sheet metal strip fixed by rivets or welding. A groove may be formed in the holder plate at the same point. In a modification the spring pressed presser plate 8 is replaced by a pair of flaps made in one piece with the fork-shaped holder.
