Abstract

In a safety razor in which the blade can be stropped while in the razor by moving the latter to and from along the strop, the blade-holding and stropping members are carried by a rectangular yoke 9 mounted on a screwed shank 7 disposed in a handle 1 carrying a divided guard 3 between the parts of which the yoke is slidable. Strop-guiding rollers 11, 16 are journaled in the arms of the yoke and the roller 11 is geared to a blade-holding roller 11<a> also journaled in the yoke and carrying recessed pins 13 for engaging the perforations in the blade, while the cross-piece 8 of the yoke also carries blade-engaging pins 10. For shaving, the shank 7 is rotated to move the guard against the blade which is carried on to the pins 10 and clamped in position, the rollers 16 moving within the gap between the parts of the guard. For stropping, the guard is moved to release the blade from the pins 10 and expose the rollers 16 and the blade is secured on the roller 11<a> by moving it laterally so that the recessed pins 13 engage the blade which can then be sharpened on a strop 17 passed between the rollers 11, 16. In a modification, the cross piece of the yoke is detachable and for sharpening the blade is secured on a separate carrier held on the roller 11<a>, one edge of the blade being sharpened at a time.
