Abstract
388,905. Sharpening razors. LAWRENCE, G. F., 216, Goswell Road, London. Jan. 20, 1932, No. 1715. [Class 60.] A sharpener for razor blades comprises two frames 1, back to back and connected at their ends by plates 13, each of which is formed from a piece of metal to the section shown in Fig. 2, and holds sharpening strips 5, which may be of glass, stone, metal, fibre, leather, &c., and may be coated or impregnated with a fine abrasive, The strips are inclined as shown, and in the frames are formed longitudinal slots 6, which expose the operative surfaces of the strips. A blade carrier 8 is provided for each unit comprising a body part having sides 10 and ends 12, which engage the holes in a blade, and the carriers are united by a rivet 11 passing through a slot 9 in the frames. In operation, a blade 7 is placed on a carrier, is depressed so that its edges lie against the strips 5, and is moved with the carrier to and fro along the strips. One pair of strips 5 may be arranged for honing and the other for finishing, and the slot 9 may be sinuous to give transverse movement also to the blade; one pair of strips and one frame only may be used. The device may be modified for use with single edged blades, either one or two strips then being employed.
