509,584. Indicating vibrations. BOSCH GES., R. Jan. 14, 1939, No. 1294. Convention date, Jan. 14, 1938. [Class 106 (iv)] Oscillatory variations in the angular velocity of a rotary shaft 1 are indicated by connecting the shaft to the sun wheel 9 of a differential gear the planet wheels 10, 11 of which are. mounted in a carrier 4 driven by a variable speed motor 8 at such a speed that only the oscillations are imparted to the output shaft 14. A disc 16 is secured to the shaft 14 and carries markings shown in Fig. 2 and comprising equally spaced circles 21 and radial marks 22. Due to persistence of vision, the marks appear as in Fig. 3, when the disc is oscillating, the greater the amplitude of oscillation the shorter the apparent radial extent of the marks. The disc 16 may close contacts 17 connected to a device for measuring the rate of oscillation.
