Differential speed indicators. -Apparatus for facilitating the changing of gearing in motorvehicles comprises two concentrically -mounted speed-indicating bands, one driven from a road wheel and showing miles per hour, and the other from the engine and showing revolutions per minute. Two centrifugal governors E, L, driven by flexible shafts from a road wheel and an engine shaft respectively, are provided to operate the hands C<2>, C<1> respectively, the hand C<3> being mounted on a sleeve D surrounding the spindle of the hand C<1>. Circular racks E<1>, L<4> upon the governor spindles rotate long receiving-pinions D', K respectively, from which movement is communicated to the hands. When the hands are coincident, change into or from the top gear may be made ; for other changes, corresponding angles must separate the hands, the apparatus being intended primarily for motor-vehicles in which any desired velocity-ratio may be attained by means of slipping clutches and their equivalents. A distance register of ordinary construction is provided.
