506,172. Photo - mechanical printing- surfaces. JANKE, A. P., and KAJA COLD BLUE ENAMEL PROCESS CO., Ltd. Nov. 23, 1937, Nos. 32260/37 and 25520/38. [Class 98 (ii)] An enamelling solution for use as an etching resist in photo-mechanical printing contains shellac, or a similar alcohol-soluble resin, a hydroxy-alkylamine and a light-sensitive agent. Mono-, di-, or triethanolamine may be used and the sensitizing may be effected with ammonium bichromate. In examples, the solution comprises (1) shellac, triethanolamine, albumen, and ammonium bichromate, and (2) shellac, triethanolamine, albumen, gelatine, borax, ammonia, caustic soda, and ammonium bichromate. A blue or violet dye, e.g. Crystal Violet may be included. The resulting resist requires no burning in, but may be subjected to moderate heating, e.g. till the blue colour of the dye just disappears. The support may be a metal plate, e.g. of copper, zinc, aluminium, or a magnesium alloy.
