[Class 98 (ii)] The process of producing zincographic printing-plates in which a plate is coated with a layer of bichromated albumen, exposed under a drawing, flooded with transfer ink, developed, coated with shellac solution and the parts of the shellac layer overlying the ink removed by treatment with turpentine, the remaining shellac serving as an etching resist, is modified by the addition of colophony to the shellac solution, by the use of paraffin in place of turpentine for washing the plate and by the use of a mixture of three acids for etching. In carrying out the process a grained zinc plate is first de-oxidized with acetic acid and coated with a layer of albumen and glue sensitized with ammonium bichromate. After exposure it is coated with printer's black in turpentine and developed under water. A coating of shellac, colophony and methyl violet in alcohol is then applied and the plate washed in paraffin and cleaned with gum arabic solution. The albumen is then removed with dilute nitric acid, the plate cleaned with sulphuric acid, and etching is performed with a mixture of nitric, hydrochloric and phosphoric acids to which sodium bichromate is added.
