[Class 98 (ii).] To remove the last traces of unexposed colloid, in the process of producing photo-mechanical printing-surfaces by exposing to light a layer of bichromated colloid on a metal plate and washing away the unexposed colloid, the surface is treated with a mixture of a dehydrating medium, such as alcohol, and nitric acid. The alcohol hardens the exposed colloid and the acid attacks the metal, the completion of the process being made apparent by a change in colour of the picture.
