Abstract

503,221. Thermionic valves. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Sept. 1, 1937, No. 23892. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] In a valve having the envelope wholly or mainly of metal, the electrode system is mounted on a base-plate 1 with the axis of the system parallel to the base-plate. This plate may be of metal or of ceramic material with a metal coating to facilitate welding to the cover 22 ; the metal cover and base-plate may have corresponding projections and recesses to facilitate sealing. Metal side plates 5, 51 welded to the base support-by means of insulating plates 6, 6<1>-the equipotential cathode 7 and the grid and anode posts 11, 13, 15, 171, the side plates acting as screens for the system. Lugs 19 on the plate 51 act as screens to the cathode heater leads 9, 10, which with the leads to the anode and suppressor grid are taken to one side of the system, while the cathode lead and leads to the other grids are taken to the opposite side. All these leads pass through glass stoppers held in short metal tubes 2 welded to the base-plate. The metal gauze anode 17 extends over the whole length of the grids only above and below the electrodes, being cut away at the sides. A metal exhausting tube 21 is protected by a tube 25 supported by a bracket 25a from the base-plate or from an insulating bottom plate 23; this tube 25 with a pin 24 is used in centring the valve on a chassis 32, Fig. 6, of a radio set. A plate 33 acts as a holder for the valve, held in place by a cross-plate 35 which may fix several valves on the chassis. The coils of the set are placed within the chassis 32' which protects the coils from the heat of the valves ; or the components associated with the grids may be inside or below the chassis and those associated with the anode circuit above or outside the chassis or vice versa.
