Abstract

461,539. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 30, 1936, No. 21157. Convention date, July 31, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] In an electric discharge device a portion of the wall of the envelope consists of a flexible diaphragm 14 which carries an electrode ; rigidly mounted next to the diaphragm is a bridge 20 of insulating material in which a bolt is adjustably mounted, the head 21 of the bolt being welded to the diaphragm. As shown, a directly-heated, oxide-coated cathode 28 is carried by the diaphragm on two copper or steel rods 6, 7, silver soldered, brazed or welded to thimbles 8, 9. The thimbles are fused to glass supports by means such as are described in Specification 448,727, [Group XI]. By means of the bolt the relative disposition of the rods 6, 7 is adjustable and therefore the extension of the cathode. A locking plate may be provided for the bolt. The metal envelope 29 acts as the anode. Specification 404,299 also is referred to.
