Abstract
473,789. Cathode-ray tubes; photoelectric cells. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 28, 1936, No. 20909. Convention date, July 29, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray or photo-electric discharge tube the cathode in the form of a fine film is renewed during operation of the tube by a supply of an activating material from an electrode arranged not to disturb the lens system in the tube. The renewing material may be held in a gutter 4, Fig. 1a, mounted inside the shield 3 for the cathode 1, the shield at cathode potential having a slit outlet 7 ; in another form the gutter 4 surrounds an accelerating anode 6, or a part of this anode may form the distribution means for the material. The gutter may be heated electrically or electrolytic means may be used to volatilize the supply material. This may be an alkali metal compound, caesium hydride being an example.
