Abstract
497,121. Liquid-fuel burners. JOYCE, C. G. B. Feb. 21, 1938, No. 5386. [Classes 75 (i) and 126] Oil is supplied from a tank 44 through a pipe 35 to a cap 34 having radial pipes 36 delivering into a burner bowl 23 and burns with air supplied by a fan 42 through a pipe 29 to the centre of the bowl below a baffle plate 40 supported by curved vanes 31 which impart a swirling motion to the flame. Ignition is effected by a gas pilot burner 51. The pipe 29 screws into a ring 26 which extends above the level of the bottom of bowl 23 to provide a sump from which unburnt oil can escape through a pipe 47 to a tank 49 and operate by its weight a trip valve 50 in the pipe 35. Instead of one pipe 47 a number of pipes terminating at different levels may be provided. A spider on the ring 26 supports the cap 34. The burner may be mounted by a stand 20 on the grate 16 of a circular stove containing a hot water coil 52 and fitted with removable pot rings 17 in its top plate 18.
