Abstract
485,854. Valve circuits for wireless reception. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., BLACK, D. H., and LAWRENCE, W. Sept. 25, 1936, No. 26067. [Class 40 (v)] A.V.C. in a thermionic amplifier is produced by applying a gain control potential to the grid of a valve the internal impedance of which is common to the output and input circuits of the amplifier and produces a negative feed-back effect. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, feed-back voltages are derived from the junction of a resistance R and the triode portion of a double valve V1, which are connected across the pentode amplifying portion, the impedance of the triode being varied by an A.V.C. voltage applied to its grid. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, a triode V2 forms part of the common cathode impedance of an amplifier valve V1, and is shunted by an inductance L of high impedance to radio signals but of low impedance to the steady bias potential developed across resistance R. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the " oscillator " portion of a heptode is used as the feed-back triode in the " cathode " circuit of the signal amplifying portion. The amount of negative feed-back in a low-frequency amplifier may be simultaneously controlled. Specification 467,430 is referred to.
