Abstract
548,424. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and LEVY, M. M. April 7, 1941, No. 4613. [Class 40 (v) ] The loss at high frequencies due to the anode to earth capacity of a pentode valve is reduced by reducing the effect of the part of this capacity contributed by the suppressor grid by connecting the suppressor grid to a point in the amplifier at approximately the anode alternating potential. Fig. 3 shows a pentode V1 in which the effect of the inherent capacity C1 is compensated by connecting the suppressor grid to the point P1 or P2 which is of requisite potential and connected to earth through an impedance which is low relative to that of the inherent capacity C3. If the point P1 is of higher potential than the anode overcompensation may be effected so that part of the capacity C2 is compensated and by adjustment of the phase the impedance may be made of any kind and either positive or negative. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which the suppressor grid of the valve V1 is connected to the cathode of V2 which is connected as a cathodefollower. The coupling of the suppressor grid of the valve V2 to the cathode of V3 includes the resistance condenser combination RS, KS, as shown, or may include a transformer. In an amplifier using feedback the necessary potential from this circuit may be applied to the suppressor grid. The valves may operate on non-linear portion of their characteristics when used for amplifying impulses.
