Abstract
469,896. Valve amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRAILSFORD, J. D. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3268. [Class 40 (v)] Gain control is effected by feed back in an impedance associated with an auxiliary valve which is controlled by normal A.V.C. potentials or manually. In the Figure, the output voltage from the main valve 1 is taken to the grid of an auxiliary valve 10 which is connected through the resistance 14 to a source of A.V.C. potential. An impedance 5 is common to the cathode circuits of both valves. Negative feed-back voltage is produced across the impedance 5 due to the valve 1 and positive feed-back due to valve 10. When a stronger signal is received, valve 10 is biassed more negatively and the positive feed-back, and therefore the resultant ratio of output to input, is reduced. In a preferred arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the main valve is coupled to the auxiliary valve by a tuned circuit; the common impedance in the cathode circuits also being a tuned circuit. With this arrangement the grid connection to the auxiliary valve may be " tupped down " on the tuned circuit, in the same way as the input to the tuned circuit.
