480,380. Surface hardening of shafts &c. DENNEEN, F. S., and DUNN, W. C. Oct. 29, 1936, No. 29385. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1935. [Class 72] [Also in Group XI] A shaft 19 is ar ranged within a series of adjacent inductor: 17 supplied with high frequency current and individually control led to obtain different depths and degrees of heating in different parts of the shaft Individually control led quenching means are associated with the inductors. Condensers 25 are arranged across the primaries 23 to tune the circuits to the most suitable heating conditions. Cur. rent and quenching medium may be sup. plied to different inductors for different periods under automatic control, the timing means described in Specification 479,968 being employed.
