Abstract
479,807. Respirators. MARTINDALE ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JOHNSON, H. L. K. March 31, 1937, No. 9179. [Class 81 (ii)] A respiratory mask comprises a pad 24, of cottonwool covered with gauze, secured, as by clips 25, to a thin backing plate 11, for example of aluminium, the plate being substantially rectangular in shape and having rounded ends 12, an oval mouth opening 18, a slightly incurved lower edge 17, and a cut-away upper edge providing a recess 14 to receive the nose and small projections 15 to engage the nostrils. The plate may be perforated as at 19, 20, and is secured to the face by straps 21 the ends of which are doubled back and have metal fasteners 23 secured to the doubled portions. The strap ends are passed through slots 22 in the plate until the free ends 21a pass the slot, and are then pulled out to cause the ends 21a to bear on the reverse side of the plate and the fasteners 23 to bear upon the edge of the slot. The pad 24 may be of fireproofed material.
