Abstract
835,383. Face masks. MARTINDALE ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and STANLEY, F. R. June 19, 1958, No. 19698/58. Class 81 (2). A face mask comprises a gauze or cotton filter 11 supported by a plate 1 having a single opening extending from its upper edge to provide a nose recess 10a and a mouth aperture 12, a non-metallic flexible deformable part 6 extending across the aperture to separate the nose recess from the mouth aperture and to constitute the lower edge of the nose recess. A U-shaped backing plate 1 of aluminium has a pair of holes 2, 3 in each limb. A portion 6 of an elastic strap 5 is passed through the holes from one limb to the other to form the lower edge of the hose recess. The remainder of the strap forms a head band 7. The threading of the strap through the holes is such that the tensions of the portion 6 and the head band are independently adjustable. The filter 11 is removably secured to the support member by lugs 9 or clips (not shown) at the bottom corners of the backing plate. The filter may be secured to a cardboard backing plate by staples (not shown).
