Abstract

472,347. Machine guns. JOHNSTON, J. S. July 3, 1936, No. 18535. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to gas-operated guns of the kind in which a pawl 4 carried by the breech-bolt 2 prevents the hammer 5 of the actuator 1 from striking the firing pin 6 until the parts are in the firing position. According to the invention, the assembly of the parts is facilitated by providing stop means, such as a collar 8 on the firing pin and a screw thimble 10 in the breechbolt, which hold the rear end of the firing pin clear of the pawl when the parts are in their rearward position. This arrangement also enables the hammer to gain a certain impetus before striking the firing pin after being released when the pawl registers with a recess 7 in the receiver 3. Specification 152,113, [Class 92 (ii)], is referred to.
