Abstract
219,872. Johnstone, D. V., and Fearn, J. W. Dec. 21, 1923. Pneumatic.-The barrel of an air pistol or rifle is mounted above and parallel to the air cylinder, and is hinged thereto to serve as the cocking lever. As shown in Fig. 3, the air cylinder a is fixed to the handle a<1> and forms the body of the weapon. The barrel d is hinged to the front of the cylinder by a depending swinging bracket h and at the breech end normally engages a fixed bracket i<2> which is formed with air passages c, c<1> leading from the rear of the air cylinder to the barrel. The piston is pressed rearwardly by the action-spring and is cocked by a slide f connected by a link k to the barrel so that it is drawn forwards when the barrel is raised, as shown in Fig. 2. The slide f engages a collar b<2> at the front of the piston and forces it forwards until the sear e springs into bent with a collar b<1> towards the rear of the piston. In a modification, Fig. 8, the barrel d is hinged at the breech end, and is adapted to displace the piston rearwardly for cocking purposes. Air from the front of the cylinder a reaches the breech of the barrel through a tube m fixed axially in the cylinder.
