457,693. Propelling aircraft. WASEIGE, C. R., 62, Boulevard Belle-Rive, Rueil-Malmaison, Seine-et-Oise, France. Feb. 24, 1936, No. 5502. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1935. [Class 4] [See also Group XXVI] In aircraft in which two oppositely rotating airscrews 5, 6 are respectively driven by engines 1, 2, the gearing between each engine and a shaft transmitting its power is disposed rearwardly of the engine. In one form, the engines 1, 2 are carried by the wing structure and disposed on either side of the fuselage. The airscrews are driven through bevel gearing and shafts 9, 10 incorporating universal joints 11. A gun may be fired through the concentric airscrew shafts. In a modification, two sets of engines and airscrews are disposed, one on either side of the fuselage. Each engine may incorporate a forwardly directed supercharger 14 having an intake 13 housing a fixed helical guide 12 ; the diameter of the intake and guide and the pitch of the latter decrease rearwardly.
