Abstract
479,822. Propelling aircraft. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. May 28, 1937, No. 14884. Convention date, May 29, 7936. [Class 4] Exhaust from an aero-engine is employed to drive a turbine adapted to drive a supercharger and an auxiliary airscrew. As shown, the exhaust from the engine 2, which drives an airscrew 5, is led by a pipe 8 to a turbine 9. One rotor of the turbine drives an auxiliary airscrew 11, coaxial with the airscrew 5, and the other rotor drives a supercharger 10 from which air is supplied to the engine through a pipe 17. Fuel is injected into the pipe 17. An axial-flow turbine may be employed, in which case, the turbine rotor, the airscrew 11 and the supercharger may be on a common shaft. The airscrew 11 may be driven through gearing from the turbine and may be disposed eccentrically from the airscrew 5. The airscrew 11 may rotate in the same direction as, or oppositely to, the airscrew 5 and either or both airscrews may be provided with pitchchanging mechanism. The pitch of the airscrew 11 may be automatically controlled by pressure variation in the supercharger exhaust. The airscrew 5 may be three times the diameter of the airscrew 11.
