456,689. Cooling cylinders. CHRISTIAN, M., 39, Flottenstrasse, Reinickendorf, Berlin. Aug. 26, 1935, No. 23857. [Class 7 (ii)] In an air-cooled in-line engine, independent cylinder heads each have a single pair of valves and passages arranged in planes transverse to the crankshaft and ribs 11 extending perpendicularly to walls 10 inclined symmetrically to these planes. Each pair of valves, which preferably have parallel stems, is thus located at the ridge of a roof-shaped cylinder head and by shortening the ribs near the lower edges the cylinders may be placed. close together. A casing 18 for the valve gear, which. is rigidly connected to the spring casing 24 surrounding the valve guides of one cylinder, and yieldingly held at the remaining cylinders to allow for heat expansion, forms a channel for the cooling air. A further tubular casing 30 round the gear driving-shaft diverts the air on to the rear of the cylinders.
