Abstract
483,243. Cooling cylinders. ROWLEDGE, A. J. Oct. 13, 1936, No. 27823. [Class 7 (ii)] Separate cylindrical cooling fins E are fixed in the base of the recess in the head of a sleevevalve engine, by portions sunk in the surface thereof. Enlarged ends of the fins are secured in slots formed in the head by swaging over the edges. The lower parts of the fins are saw cut at intervals to facilitate their fitting. Cooling air is deflected into the recess by a baffle G, further fins D being cast in the head adjacent the sparking plugs C. In an aluminium-alloy head, the fins are preferably formed of substantially pure copper. Specification 455,664 is referred to.
