[Class 58] In apparatus for filling bags, sacks, and the like in which the mouth of the bag &c. is clamped between upper and lower clamping members, the lower member 16 being carried by a frame or stand at a convenient height and the upper member 22 fitting over or into it to hold the mouth of the bag firmly, the lower member is pivotally or hingedly mounted on the frame or stand. As shown, the frame is formed of three vertical legs 10 which may be adjustable in height and are connected by L-shaped stays 11, 12 and bracing members 13. The member 16 is annular and secured by tongues 18 to pivots 17 carried by vertical brackets 15 on the frame which has stops 19, 20 for limiting the pivotal movement of the holder. The mouth of the sack is held round the lower annular member 22 which is then pressed down on holder 16 which may have inclined lugs 21 to receive it and a raised tongue 23 with an inturned top edge under which the clamping member 22 fits. The members 16, 22 are tightened together by one or more clamps 27 each carried by a manually-operated lever 25 pivoted to a bracket 24 attached to one of the tongues 18 and urged to operative position by a spring 26. One or more upstanding tongues 28 may be provided on member 22 over which the top edge of the sack may be passed or hung. In a modified form, the member 22 may be hinged or pivoted to the member 16.
